Execution System
The Manufacturing Execution System is the cornerstone
of Momentum, Brighteye's Manufacturing Operations
Management software. It forms the base for the warehouse,
quality, batching, and scheduling systems. From planning
and instructions to order recipes, it all starts in
Momentum's MES.
What is a Manufacturing Execution System (MES)?
What does an MES system do? The manufacturing execution system is typically positioned between the ERP and SCADA layers of the organization.
The software controls the process from raw material to finished product. It optimizes the manufacturing process by monitoring, tracking, documenting, and controlling the entire production lifecycle. MES systems are used in the process industry as well as in discrete manufacturing to improve production.
MESA's honeycomb model gives a good impression of what an MES entails.
The advantages of an MES system
Manufacturing Execution Systems create optimized processes in manufacturing and support the entire factory workforce to work smarter and more efficiently.
- All knowledge is centralized in one platform, not on paper or in the heads of employees.
- OEE dashboards to keep track of KPIs, output, downtime
- Decreased downtime and errors, if they occur the MES makes it easy to find the reason.
- Track and trace functions make the production procees transparent from start to end
- ...
Brighteye's MES, the cornerstone of Momentum
Momentum's MES base manages, schedules, and monitors the automated execution of manufacturing processes and connects to enterprise software, machinery, production equipment, and resources. It's also possible to automatically send the correct data for real-time inline label printing and manage the appearance of complex product labels and EAN and SNCC codes.
It centralizes all information about the product, processes, procedures, etc. and displays the different data in clear, organized dashboards. Finally, the MES module can automatically calculate the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
The six elements of Momentum's MES
1. Execution
- Fully automate and synchronize the entire production chain.
- Guarantee quality by standardizing operating procedures and work instructions.
- Optimize production execution by maintaining a transparent view on the entire chain.
- Connect enterprising software and machinery / production equipment: interface with PLM, ERP, DMS, etc & execute PLC and CNC steered equipment parts.
- Process production data and technical data at the same time.
2. Knowledge
- Centralize knowledge about products and processes
- Store instructions for operators, procedures, maintenance instructions, quality criteria, photographs, electrical diagrams, best practices, etc.
- Employ as an e-learning tool in the workplace, to reduce the incidence of errors
- Consult all types of knowledge on the shop floor at any desired time
3. OEE, Overall Equipment Effectiveness
- Calculate the OEE automatically to measure the overall manufacturing productivity
- Allow operators to manually adjust and complement incomplete OEE data
- Display real-time OEE results for every level of detail: production order, work center, area, site, etc.
- Use the OEE results as an operational management tool
4. Labeling
- Control the appearance of complex product labels and the EAN and SSCC codes that will be applied to labels
- Automatically send correct data to printers, which reduces the occurrence of errors
Compatible with all common industrial label printers and dynamic or real time inline label printing.
5. Historian
- Connect multiple data sources to create a history of real-time manufacturing operations metrics in an open information model
- Store results across different manufacturing facilities
User-friendly analytics and dashboard-based monitoring to empower front-line employees and decision-makers.
6. Reporting & Dashboards
- Create, configure and display different reports (in all possible formats to print and export) and dashboards (on one (mobile) operator webpage )
- Handle the entire cycle of report development, from creating report templates to displaying reports
- Use data from multiple data sources, including external databases
- Publish real-time and historical data graphically
Have a simple, easy-to-understand view of key performance indicators
Implementation of a Manufacturing Execution System
While implementing a new (or first) MES system can look daunting at first glance, Brighteye is with you every step of the way. From the initial scope, detailed user stories, and change management on the production floor, ...
Our solution architects and MES consultants use a phased approach with clear intermediate milestones and deliverables.
The phasing of an MOM project starts from the following crucial premises:
- optimal use of the Momentum standard software
- maximized agility & transparency
- optimal engagement of all parties involved
- knowledge transfer to the customer's MOM competence center
Momentum Application Modules
Brighteye’s Momentum software platform includes five modules that collectively constitute a comprehensive and fully integrated MOM solution.
